Question 1

Sketch a P&ID to represent the following system:

Natural gas from a transmission pipeline is to be separated from any potential liquid using a two-

phase vertical separator. Liquid is to flow out the base of the vessel under level control. The

vapour phase will leave via the top of the vessel with the following instrumentation feeding back

to the control system:

i.

ii.

iii. Flow

iv. Gas composition via gas chromatograph analysis

Relevant Data

• Use the NG P&ID Legend Sheet. All equipment, valves, instruments, and lines are to be

tagged.

Pressure

Temperature

• The two-phase separator is equipped with a PSV that vents safely to atmosphere, set at vessel

design pressure

➜ Vessel details:

• Design pressure: 15,300 kPag / FV

Design temperature: -10/70°C

Material: carbon steel

Diameter: 1,200 mm

• Height (T-T): 3,000 mm

Question 2

Sketch a P&ID to represent the following system: A water and ethanol mix is to be pumped

using a centrifugal pump from the base of a vertical vessel under level control, through a pre-

heater (heat exchanger with steam as the heating medium) to a set product temperature before

entering a distillation column. Details on the upstream vessel and distillation column are not

required.

Relevant Data

• Use the NG P&ID Legend Sheet. All equipment, valves, instruments, and lines are to be

tagged.
