Question 1: Discuss the aim of the study and explain why measuring child-reported food insecurity is important to development.

Aim of the study: The term and the concept of food security were started nearly four and a half decade ago during the World Food Conference organized in 1974 by Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations. The Australian Dietary Guidelines (ADG) reported in 2013, that Australian children between the age group of 9-13 years consumed high amount of fruits but very inadequate amount of fresh vegetables. The proportions were 70% and 2.6% respectively for fruits and vegetables. In this study, the data is combined as the ‘non-metropolitan’ or ‘country’ data which gives a very closer scrutiny for regional versus remote consumption for fruits and vegetables. Importance: Food insecurity is described as “limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways”. According to World Health Organization (WHO) in 2013, 5.2 million deaths in worldwide rage occurred due to low consumption of fruits and vegetables and also Western Australia is facing a low vegetable and fruits consumption in the children group. Low amount of fruits and vegetables consumption causes to malnutrition which increases childhood stunting, micronutrient deficiencies. These lead to obstruct the child growth and development, mental problem, and finally child bearing problems for women. Ultimately the development of the country will be very much affected.
