Metacognitive mental processes are the processes by virtue of which one's understanding and performance can be assessed and monitored. Also, metacognition makes a child aware of his own thinking. In order to promote initial development of metacognition in children, there are certain tasks and activities that can be introduced. Firstly, fun activities should be included. They include various games like puzzle solving, fish bowl, building games, ball pass etc. Apart from this, assignment sheets should be designed in such a way that it promotes meta-cognitive skill development. Teachers should also ensure equal participation and effective communication among children in the classroom.
