Ans) In transhumeral amputations, the conventional arm and hand prostheses are attached through a socket to the humerus. This results in movement induced by native biceps and triceps lacking somatosensory feedback. Recent advances make use of signal-activated motors linked to the remnant biceps and triceps. The limitation is that patients must learn to operate prosthesis by contracting these muscles due to lack of sensory feedback from the devices barring the incidental visual and auditory cues during the prosthesis movement. The experiment addresses it by developing a self-contained, neuromusculoskeletal prosthetic arm with inclusion of sensory feedback from prosthetic hand for intuitive use (Ortiz-Catalan et al., 2020).
