I soliti ignoti a 1958 film by Mario Monicelli concluded by showing a bittersweet conversation between future robbers over plates of beans and pasta (Bondanella & Pacchioni, 2017, p. 186); (Criterion Creeps, 2018). It sort of fits with the bittersweet unresolved endings seen in the neorealist films. But it is more successful in conveying its message than the preceding films because it centred on professional comic characters, actors or actresses, transplanting the message through grotesque comedy rather than the traditional films that used non-professional actors displaying a more rosy picture (Bondanella & Pacchioni, 2017, p. 160); (Criterion Creeps, 2018).
